2012 scholarship Information

Applicants must be graduating seniors currently participating on a Future Problem Solving and/or Community Problem Solving team, or have submitted an entry in this year’s Scenario Writing competition.

The scholarship for 2012 is $1,000 and will be paid directly to the winning applicant for use at the institution of higher learning of his or her choice. Students who do not plan to attend college during the 2012-2013 school year should not apply.

The winner of the scholarship will be announced at the awards ceremony of the Future Problem Solving State Bowl on April 21, 2012.

Applicants must submit a 300 to 500 word essay with the following directions: “Project yourself 20 years into the future. Describe a problem you might encounter and how you could use the skills you acquired in Future Problem Solving to resolve it.” Applicants will be penalized for essays exceeding the word limit.

A scholarship committee will review all applications received by the March 16, 2012 deadline. The decision of the committee will based on the following criteria:

50% Applicant’s required essay;

25% Coach’s recommendation;

15% Teacher’s recommendation;

10% Future Problem Solving participation.

The applicant is responsible for collecting the two recommendations and submitting a complete package containing an application, essay, coach recommendation, and teacher recommendation. The teacher recommendation may come from any teacher familiar with the applicant’s academic performance but the recommendation from the coach must come from the applicant’s current Future Problem Solving coach.

The Future Problem Solving of Virginia Scholarship Fund is administered by the Virginia Future Problem Solving Program, Inc., a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. The scholarship is funded by private donations and the Virginia Future Problem Solving Program.

Applications become the property of Future Problem Solving of Virginia.

The complete application package, with all required signatures, must be postmarked no later than March 16, 2012, to be considered. Mail the entire package to:
