Daniel Sun, a remarkable young person who is the epitome of a problem solver, is this year's recipient of the 2011 Future Problem Solving of Virginia Scholarship.
Daniel first participated in VAFPS as an individual in 2008 and placed 3rd at the state bowl. The next year he participated on a Senior Division team that won second place. He won an invitation to the International Conference last year on a Senior Division team which received first place honors in the booklet competition and first in the Senior Presentation of Action Plan skits as well.
In addition to these remarkable Global Issues Problem Solving honors, Daniel used the process on a daily basis last year when assuming the role of FPS club president of his school. As club president, this articulate leader was responsible for registering teams and individuals, providing resources for participants, preparing for competitions, and assuming responsibility for the financial accounting of all of the school's teams.
Last year, when faculty sponsorship to travel with the school's IC teams could not be found, Daniel registered the teams as independent teams accompanied by a parent volunteer. This year, he transitioned in a new FPS sponsor for the school's growing program. The foundation for the continued success of the school's FPS program has been laid by this individual.
Congratulations to Daniel Sun from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology.for winning the $1000 Future Problem Solving of Virginia Scholarship.
