![]() | Cople Elementary School Nick Richard, Harley, Emma Tyler, Abby, Grace and Mackenzie Coached by Andrew Woodrow Project - Helping Hands A volunteer is someone who gives a commitment of time and energy for the benefit of the community without financial gain. For many people, becoming a volunteer is not a decision, but something that happens quite by chance. Maybe you offer help at a special school function, with the Girls Scouts, or the Boy Scouts, thinking it will be a one time deal, but the next thing you know you are back again to help where you can. Maybe that is where the expression “lend a hand” came from? According to our research, everyday millions of people are involved in volunteer work, but many more are needed. More volunteers are needed because of budget cuts. Without money, organizations can not pay people, so they try to find someone who would be willing to do the job, but not get paid. What can a person gain from Volunteering? Volunteering can open the way to learning new skills, making new friends, and can give you a good feeling about making a difference. Even though you don’t get a paycheck, the rewards come from the satisfaction of helping others, your environment, or your community. What do we have to offer? We might be children, but we have skills, two hands and feet, plus we have lots of energy. We may need some guidance, but we can help. That’s why we formed Project H.E.L.P. H.E.L.P. stands for…Helping Others, Encouraging Everyone,Leading by Example and Promoting a Community that Cares. We want to | ![]() |
